Of course, the second amendment is there to defend against government tyranny and overreach and the militarization of our cities. Don’t exactly see 2Aers and the NRA rushing to defend Chicago and Baltimore from federal military occupation.

Bingo! That's precisely what the 2nd Amendment is for!

So the more I think about it, the more what Kirk says is a) probably true, and b) easy to agree with in the abstract. “Some” gun deaths are necessary and unavoidable. Some deaths. People I don’t know. People who aren’t real to me. Just like the “Trump could shoot someone dead and I’d still support him.” That’s easy. “Someone” is anyone. “Someone” is no one. What if it was your wife? Your husband? Your little girl? Your son about to start school? Your mother, father, aunt, uncle, someone you know, someone you care about? “Trump could shoot my daughter and I’d still support him.” “My son dying is worth the second amendment standing.” It’s too easy to support the abstract. Make it personal and see what happens. I submit to you that this is what is going to happen to a subset of the MAGAverse. Not all not most, but a sliver. They’ll see it. Because a cost isn’t real until you pay it.

The NRA didn’t take that stance until 1977 when Harlon Carter and Neal Knox took over the organization in a revolt in response to the 1968 Gun Control Act. Up until then the NRA was more about firearms safety. I myself and my family were converted into this cult. I made it out. I still own guns, but they’re in a safe, and if the govt wanted me to take firearms classes and carry insurance I’d do it.

Your comparison isn't as intellectual as you think. There's a difference between citizens being able to defend themselves from a tyrannical government trying to subvert individual freedom, and the government helping to enforce existing law to protect the individual freedom of law abiding citizens. These cities have the power and ability to enforce this now, but they aren't doing it... it is a deliberate process. All Trump is saying is enforce law and order to protect the public or we'll have to do it for you. The citizens in DC are appreciative (except the white liberals of course). We will have to see if he is constitutionally allowed to do such a thing because we already know every liberal judge is just itching to file a national injunction.

Okay. Sending in the military to enforce the law is against the law, that’s well-known. So instead, we have National Guard troops… what. Picking up trash? Landscaping? They’re the UN peacekeeping force of this situation. And why does the President get to decide who is or isn’t doing everything they can to enforce state laws? This is a man who is cutting aid budgets left and right, putting people into deeper desperation. Do you really think it’s the President’s job to enforce state and local law? To ensure arrestees are prosecuted? Is there no limit to the power you want to give this man? And that’s a serious question because there doesn’t seem to be. The President sending in the military to a sovereign state that has not asked for nor wants it to be there is pretty much the definition of a tyrannical government trying to subvert individual freedom.

Why don't you ask the DC businesses who are loosing $1000s. Trump is lying. Formerly lively DC neighborhoods look like ghost towns. But Trump likes it that way so he doesn't have to rub elbows with all the "loosers."

Charlie Kirk was a nasty propagandist who radicalized young people and was proud of it. He, and his ilk, spread hateful rhetoric, real vitriol. That, with no good regulatory gun control, has had disastrous results. He is a victim of his own hateful lies.

Wouldn’t this be a most opportune time for Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries to introduce a joint resolution asking the Congress to urgently pass a strict federal gun control law. Don’t rule out that this may have been an “inside job”, perhaps ordered by Putin, to stir up the bee hive of radical right wing MAGATs or Trump , in order to justify the looming police state and cancellation of the 2026 election.

Violence is never an answer but the “God given rights” that the right wing bought and paid for NRA complicit murderers blither about, is straight up bullshit. Would Jesus or God be packing? How fucking stupid and disingenuous is that. Weapons of death, or “God and guns”, is for devil worshipers. Nothing but love gets accepted at the pearly gates, period.
