I used to read these books from people like Erich von Däniken, who claim aliens visited Earth thousands of years ago, and ancient humans mistook the aliens for gods. That idea has stuck with me ever since.
I think a lot of the old legends fit perfectly. They sound like stories from people who don't understand technology, trying to explain in their own limited way what they saw when they encountered technologically advanced beings.
Imagine how primitive people in the Amazon forest would describe a plane, or someone talking to someone else on a cell phone.
Exactly, like Arthur C. Clark said; "any sufficiently advance technology is indistinguishable from magic". With that in mind, ancient beliefs make a lot more sense.
Oliver - I believe there was a primitive tribe in New Guinea that saw a plane passing overhead and proceeded to build an effigy of it and worshipped it.
That makes me sad.....I cannot look into the eyes of a new born baby, or a spring flower growing thru snow, or the breaking of a sunbeam breaking thru the blackest of skys during a Denver summer storm and not believe there is something out there greater than I.
I sometimes wish I could believe but I have been an atheist for over 54 years. I love nature, flowers and babies, but I just cannot believe in a higher power. Thanks for sharing.

I'm old and only went a little bit to churchy things when I was young but I think i remember something about God and Him “smiting” people that displeased him…. I cannot believe He has not brought out that old tool from His toolkit to use on the Orange One yet….lol

Yeah, I think that happened in a few places. It's called a "cargo cult."
They see planes, think they're gods, build fake airports with fake wooden planes and then hope the god will land there and bring them goodies.
