I’m a 70 year old retired teacher and my husband is a 79 year old retired govt employee. Most of his pension pays our health insurance, and mine supports us, kind of. We have 8 kids-4 still live with us. 3 are underemployed and the 4th has so many student loans that she has enough left to pay for her car.
Life wasn’t supposed to be this tricky at this point. Our house is paid, but needs a roof and other work. I’m frustrated.
So where the heck is any relief for regular tax-paying citizens? I volunteer 4 half days a week at a local school, 4 half days a week at a local hospital, and do a weekly literacy group for inner city kids at my church. My husband is equally involved, also works at a local food pantry. We aren’t selfish or lazy, just in need of help.
So what has the done? Besides NOT helping with big pharma, health everything is almost out of reach. My doc ordered two vitamins, but at $30 and $20 a month, I can’t. I’ve had some 40 surgeries and have chronic pain. My treatment was made a pariah, w so I no longer receive that treatment. Groceries are a luxury-thank heavens our kids help with that. The engine blew in our car-they want $10,000 to fix it with “the cheap engine.” We are using our kids’ vehicles, but gas is eating us up.
Sorry for whining, but doggone it. We are struggling now, but we weren’t three years ago.
