From 1960 to 1964, I was in the US Air Force. I worked on the radar and computers of the F-101 B fighter-interceptor, a plane that carried two infrared missiles and two atomic rockets. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, I saw the teletype machine in our radar office print out DEFCON (defense condition) alerts all the way up to DEFCON 3.

Here is a link to a webpage titled "Attack Geometry" that summarizes my Air Force experience and underscores the dangers of nuclear war. As the speed of aircraft and missiles has increased, the amount of time necessary to decide the launch of nuclear weapons has decreased. The uncertainty in the international community created by Trump is a nuclear wild card that increased the odds of nuclear war.
